MFT "Friends at First Sip" | Appreciate Your Friendship
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
So remember how I switched jobs a couple months back? Loving it, by the way. But it's now stampede week in Calgary. If you don't know what that is, you should Google it. "The Calgary Stampede". Basically, it's a giant 10 day party, where people skip work, engage in crappy behaviour and spend the day drunk, eating the weirdest food ever. Today, is day one. That means there's a parade. A parade that shuts down roads to our downtown core. A parade that somehow gives the impression that parking rules no longer apply (not to mention the next nine days). I work with guys in the construction industry and entire sites have to shut down for this "party". So hopefully, I'll be able to get to work without losing my mind, and just pray to the gods that my parking space hasn't been snagged by someone hoping to avoid getting towed.
Needless to say, I didn't sleep that much last night. Coffee was the first thing on my agenda this morning, luckily, MFT has an awesome new(ish) set all about the black gold in a cup.
To begin, I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock and coloured her in with Copic markers. I then masked her off and used my Dollar Store (FTW) blending brushes to add some Tumbled Glass and Mowed Lawn Distress inks to create a soft background.
I really wanted her to be the star of the show, so I chose not to create a more detailed background, but I definitely did not want her to be floating in the middle of nothing - she hasn't had *that* much coffee, yet.
I then stamped the greeting from the same set and trimmed down the panel. I adhered it to a piece of kraft cardstock, then mounted the whole lot to the front of a standard A2 sized card base.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar, over on Facebook and on YouTube. Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

MFT "Saddle Up" | A Little Country Birthday Card with PrismaColor Premier Pencils
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today I have a birthday card that can be used for either masculine or feminine, and those are by far my favourite kind to have on hand. I mean, who knows what you're going to need. I mean, those of your with calendars might know what you need, but for those of me that aren't quite as organized as we'd like to be.
This card features the "Saddle Up" set by My Favourite Things, I had done this panel a little while ago, and shared the picture but now it's finally a card and a post!
To begin, I stamped and masked the images, working front to back, with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 65lb Kraft cardstock.
I used me PrismaColor Premier pencils to color them in. I find that when I colour with Copic markers, my usual medium of choice, I start with my midtone, then go darker and then blend out lighter; but when working with my pencils I start with my darkest shade and blend out lighter.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar, over on Facebook and on YouTube! Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Using Up the Scraps | ft. Lawn Fawn and My Favorite Things
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today I have one final card for this installment of "Using Up the Scraps". The dish on my desk is finally down to a very respectable level, though I'm sure it will fill up fast enough again soon. LOL.
Between getting called in for work and doing the yearly municipal census, I just feel like I have no time to get crafty; on one hand that's great, I'm loving the extra hours. On the other hand, not so much. I miss being in the craft room and having all the creative juices flowing. But I've just been so tired!
All the images are stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock, then coloured with Copic markers.
I used my last little panda from MFT "Beary Special Birthday" as well as two of the bears from Lawn Fawn's "For You, Deer" set. I think I was originally planning to make bookmarks for my kids, but that didn't happen.
I adhered the black frame from MFT's "Die-namics Blueprints #27" to the front of my standard A2 sized card base, then tucked to two smaller bears in the upper windows. I stamped the greeting with Memento Ink in the larger window, directly on to the front of the card base.
The big panda I popped up with some foam tape, to give the card a bit of dimension. Finally, to finish it off, I used Glossy Accents by Ranger over the icing, because every card needs a bit of shine.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar, over on Facebook and on YouTube! Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Hippo Anniversary To You | ft. MFT "Happy Hippos"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today I have a super fun anniversary card I created by request using the Happy Hippos stamp set by My Favorite Things and the "mirror stamping" technique.
My mom asked me to create an anniversary card for someone she knew whose son was coming up to his first wedding anniversary. Naturally, I suggested something super romantic and had roses and lovey stuff all ready to go, and she's all like "nahhh, can you do hippos?"
Yes. Yes, Mom, I can. It was awesome! I was so incredibly stoked that the lady wanted hippos instead of something lovey. So epic.
To begin, I used the hippo with the gift from the Happy Hippos set and mirror stamped him. The original is the one on the right and the mirror is the one on the left. As I get more practice with this technique I love the results more and more. Kissing hippos? C'mon guy! How AWESOME is that?
I trimmed the left edge down and added half an inch of teal paper to coordinate with the ribbons on the gifts; then coloured the images with Copic markers. The little heart is from MFT "Bitty Bears" and it worked out perfectly!
All the images are stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock. I used a bit of Mowed Lawn Distress ink under the hippos just so they weren't floating in the middle of the page.
To finish off the card, I used clear Wink of Stella over the hearts and the ribbons from the presents, then covered the hearts with Glossy Accents by Ranger.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar, over on Facebook and on YouTube! Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

CAS Birthday Card - Using up the Scraps | ft. MFT "Beary Special Birthday"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today, I have another card that I cobbled together with the bits and pieces left over from other projects. It's funny how they pile up. There's just one or two to start with and then before you know it, there's a whole dish full of these little bits on the desk.
When I first got the Beary Happy Birthday set by MFT, I thought it would be wonderful to have them coloured as little pandas instead of my usual brown bears or polar bears. The problem was; I had never coloured a panda. So I stamped several and practiced, but then I didn't know what to do with them. So into the dish they went.
I used a frame that was laying around and adhered that directly to the front of a standard A2 sized card base. I popped up the bear with the cake on some foam tape and mounted him in the corner.
To finish off the card, I stamped the greeting from the same set.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar, over on Facebook and on YouTube! Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Simple Interactive Penny Slider | ft. MFT "Up In The Air"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today I have a super easy interactive card that I created when my Sister In Law asked for a card for a little boy, I absolutely love making cards that are for specific people in mind because you can really tailor the card to the individual. Seeing the look on their faces when they see something they love is without a doubt one of the best feelings ever.
****Watch in HD over on YouTube!****
(Normally you could watch here, but I'm having some technical difficulties, so please click over to watch)
Click on over to YouTube and watch the tutorial video on how this card was put together, what I use for my cloudy stencil background and the list of Copic markers used to colour these images.
I decided to add a couple additional images to the inside of the card just because it's so fun, and as you know it's one of my goals to start "finishing" the inside of the card!

Pawfect Birthday | ft. MFT "New Best Friend"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today I have a card I created for my older daughter's birthday coming up. She's going to be 12 and I can't even believe it. It's crazy to think of how fast the time goes, especially when you're watching your kids grow up. It's just insane.
Or you can watch in HD on YouTube!
Please check out the video above for the full tutorial on how I put this card together, as well as all the Copic markers I used to colour the images.
Finally a card that isn't Lawn Fawn! hahaha, I have another little card coming and it IS Lawn Fawn, I don't really think any of us should be surprised at this point. LOL!!

Have a Blast! Action Wobbler Card | ft MFT Stamps
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today I have a cute card and video tutorial on how to make this action wobbler card using the "Space Explorer" set from My Favorite Things.
Or watch in HD on YouTube!!
Please check out the video above to see how I put this card together and to watch the action wobbler at work! I also talk about all the Distress Inks and Copic markers I used to create this card.
To begin, I created the galaxy background using Distress Inks. I then splattered it with clean water from my Distress Sprayer then again with Copic Opaque White for the stars.
I stamped the images from MFT "Space Explorer" set with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock and cut them out using the Brother 2 Scan N Cut - you can see a video of the Scan N Cut in action here.
I coloured the images with Copic markers then put my card together. I used an action wobbler to put my little spaceman in place.
I stamped the greeting using Memento Tuxedo Black ink so that my blacks would match throughout the card.
To finish off this card, I added clear Wink of Stella over the window of the ship and on the spacesuit, then covered the window and the buttons with Glossy Accents by Ranger.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar, over on Facebook and now on YouTube! Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Bitty Birthday | ft. Mft's "Bitty Bears"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
It has been an amazing level of chaos since I got this new job. I mean "mom-ing" is great, but I always loved working, I knew I missed it but I had no idea how much I missed it. I had forgotten how good it feels to get dressed up in the morning and spend the day doing something outside of the house, and then get paid for it!
That being said, I seem to have lost some of my crafting mojo. I used card making as a way to feel accomplished and fulfilled, but now I need less of that so I have to find a different motivation. It's a hard feeling when you sit down with all the wonderful art supplies and stamps and paper and there's just nothing there. Perhaps now that training is over, I can get back into a regular routine with the kids at school and a couple hours to myself in the morning.
To begin, I stamped bears from MFT's "Bitty Bears" stamp set. I started with the one in the middle and the two on the outside, then masked them off and stamped the second and the fourth one, all using Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock.
I removed the masks and coloured all of the images in with Copic markers. I wanted all the bears to look different, in the end I'm most pleased with my little polar bear on the left. I remember a time when I would have left any white space blank; I think my greatest lesson in my card making journey is that nothing is white. The difference some light grays make to an area is amazing, and it makes me pause every time.
After I was finished colouring the images, I used some Salty Ocean and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to add a bit of a sky. I then trimmed down the panel a bit further and mounted that to a piece of light blue patterned paper and then adhered the whole thing to a standard A2 sized card base.
I'm actually really excited to recreate this card in other colours. It's a fantastic example of how a colour palette can change how this card looks. Make it in pinks with a "Happy Valentine's Day" at the bottom and you have the cutest card for a little loved one.

Happy Birthday | Mission Control ft. MFT "Space Explorer"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
When I was able to get my hands on this set from MFT I was over the moon (pun intended). I mentioned before (several times) that I find it difficult to make cards for men, but just as difficult are cards for the boys. This set is fantastic for either gender, but it is really nice to have a set that can be easily used for guys.
To begin, I stamped this little spaceman and the planet from MFT's "Space Explorer" set with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a piece of 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock. I coloured all the images with Copic markers and fussy cut them out. I would normally have used my Brother 2 Scan N Cut, but my craft room is kind of a mess right now and I was in a hurry.
Next I created the galaxy background by sponging on Wilted Violet, Mermaid Lagoon and Twisted Citron Distress Ink, I then used Chipped Sapphire to fill in the spaces between the coloured areas and finally Black Soot over the top, ensuring that it was darkest around the edges. I used my Distress Sprayer to splatter clean water and patted that dry with a paper towel. Once the panel was mostly dry I splattered Copic Opaque White to create all the stars.
When the panel was completely dry, I prepped the lower left corner with my powder tool and stamped the greeting from the same set with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with detail white embossing powder.
I adhered my galaxy panel to the front of a standard A2 sized card base, then added the planet. For the spaceman, I used a small action wobbler to tack him down. So when you touch him he wiggles back and forth. Once I sort out videos, I'll be sure to include (at least) one with an action wobbler. They add such a great interactive element to a card!

Happy Heart Day Series | Unbearable Without You ft. MFT "Up in the Air"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
I love sets that can be used for multiple seasons - a good set that can be used any time of year is probably one of the best investments a card maker can possibly make. Today's card uses just such a set from MFT.
If you are in the market for some new sets or are just setting out, I would recommend taking the time to find sets that can be used for multiple occasions. This will get you the best bang for your buck.
To begin, I stamped the bear from MFT's "Up in the Air" set four times with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock.
I used Copic markers to make two look like pandas and the other two to look like little brown bears. I then fussy cut them out - without leaving a border and used my black marker to edge each of them.
I used two of my square dies to cut frames from some red paper - though it wasn't quite the red I envisioned so I used a Copic marker to darken them up a bit.
I filled each of the little shakers with red heart confetti from Recollections and adhered them to the front of my standard A2 sized card base. I then ran each of my bears through my mini Xyron sticker maker and placed them on the front of each window to make them look like they were peeking out.
Once they were all adhered, I realized I had not stamped my greeting. Normally I would have stamped the greeting before adhering my elements in place, but I just got so excited about the card coming together that I completely forgot.
I tried to peel up each of the windows, but that wasn't happening. Luckily I was able to put the card base in my MISTI and stamp the greeting a couple times to get a good impression and made a mental note to do the greeting first. If I didn't have the MISTI I'm not certain it would have turned out well.
So let that be a fun little lesson - always do your stamping before adding dimensional stuff to the card.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar or over on Facebook, so you don't miss any future posts. Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Happy Heart Day Series | Be Mime ft. MFT "Be Mime"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
I'm not going to lie, I seriously considered skipping the Valentine's Day series this year. It has been a time of heartbreak for me, and while I pull a lot of my inspiration for emotions - more specifically sadness (stereotypical artist, right?) the idea of creating an entire series dedicated to love was so overwhelming for me that I thought it may have been better to just skip it.
I sat and looked at my lovey stamps and my pretty heart paper and just cried. How could I channel anything meaningful into cards when I felt so terrible? But the more I thought about it and stewed over it the more I realized that I could channel what I want to feel instead of what I was feeling.
I'm not generally one for patterned paper, I have a very difficult time working with it, it's one of the things I am challenging myself to work with more this year. I chose this incredibly busy background to represent the noise of the season, all the shops and people and love in the air; to be in opposition to the silent girl in the middle.
Maybe that's really deep, but you really just can't help how you feel.
To begin, I stamped the mime from MFT's "Be Mime" stamp set using Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock and coloured her in with Copic Markers. I wanted to keep her in very stark contrast to the background so I stuck with the cool and neutral grey families.
I used one of my stitched rectangles from Lawn Fawn to cut her out, then used some red bakers twine to create a border around the frame. I popped that up on foam tape and set it aside.
I adhered my patterned paper to the front of a standard A2 sized card base, then mounted my focus panel to the front of that.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar or over on Facebook, so you don't miss any future posts. Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Coloured on Kraft Series | Hippo Birthday ft. MFT "Happy Hippos"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
As crazy as it sounds, I think the Holidays have me a little Lawn Fawn'd out. It wasn't until I was done the whole series that I realized 95% of the cards were based on Lawn Fawn. Whoops. It wasn't intentional. I just didn't get my hands on the Christmas stuff I wanted from other companies in time. (foreshadowing?)
Anyway, today I'm taking a little break from Lawn Fawn, don't get me wrong I still love them, but I just need to take a step back and take a different perspective. Today I have a card featuring MFT's "Happy Hippos" coloured on kraft with coloured pencils.
To begin, I cut down a piece of 65lb kraft cardstock by Recollections and stamped the hippo, balloons and hat from the "Happy Hippos" set with VersaMark ink. I chose to use embossing ink because it doesn't leave harsh stamping lines, and if you have followed this particular series for any length of time, you know just how much I love the no line colouring look.
I masked off the images and used my cloud stencil and soft blue pigment ink by CTMH to create the cloudy background. I had originally thought to make the clouds whiter, but that would have taken away from the panel being kraft - I mean, I would know and you would know, but would the rest of the world understand? So I left it as it was and I'm pretty happy that I didn't shake things up.
I started colouring the balloons using the Black Widow/Scorpion wax based coloured pencils (review coming) and was pretty happy with how they turned out. They lay down a little differently than other wax brands I have - but I'll get into that in the coming review.
For the Hippo, I used my Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils - which are an oil based pencil and I'll have a review of those coming up in the new year as well. I used the warm grays to colour the hippo completely.
I can hear you now -- "what?? different brands of pencils? wax and oil? in the same piece???" Oh I know, not typically something I do. But here's the thing. Out of the 48 Widow/Scorpion pencils - there is one gray. One. And honestly, it isn't even really a good one - but again, I'll get more into that in the review. I promise. If I remember, I'll back link to this post so we can all be righteously indignant together.
To finish off, I mounted the kraft panel to the front of my A2 sized card base and then stamped the greeting from the same set using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar or over on Facebook, so you don't miss any future posts. Coloured on Kraft | ft. MFT "Our Story"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Yesterday, I posted a review of the Prismacolor Premier coloured pencils and showed an example using them of Kraft cardstock. Today I have the card that I created using that piece.
To begin, I stamped the images from MFT's "Our Story" using Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 65lb Kraft cardstock by Recollections.
I then coloured the images using Prismacolor Premier coloured pencils.
I adhered the panel to the front of a standard A2 sized card base using my tape runner.
I then put the card in the MISTI and stamped the greeting from the same set using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar or over on Facebook, so you don't miss any future posts. Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.

Product Review Series | Prismacolor Premier Coloured Pencils
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
I have been promising this one for a very long time, and I'm happy to say I'm finally ready to deliver. Perhaps it is the cooler fall season, but I've been using the Prismacolors a lot more often in my work. I've also been using Kraft cardstock more often and honestly the two just go together like tea and biscuits.
- High Quality - Artist Grade Pigment
- Widely available in stores or online
- Available in sets or open stock
- Soft core - allows for smooth application of colour
- Wax based
- Blending pencils available
If you shop around, you can certainly find a set that fits within your price range. Don't get me wrong, these pencils are not cheap. In Calgary, I can purchase them open stock for about $1.90/each plus tax. This is not a grade-school investment. I ordered my set off Amazon (Canada) in the spring as they were having a sale and I just couldn't pass it up.
The pencils come pre-sharpened, however there seems to be a lot of extra room in the tin so during shipping there was some damage to the tips.
I expected this. I have long been reading reviews from other colourists and pencil artist discussing how the quality of Prismacolor has been declining. Perhaps this is true. I bought my first set nearly a decade ago, and from my experience the quality is the same now as it was then.
I have personally had some trouble with a couple I have purchased open stock, as they get touched by people and knocked about by children and dropped on the floor.
These are a soft core, wax based pencil so they are more delicate. I found that with the few I had breakage issues with, by changing my sharpener I was able to greatly reduce my frustration. For a while I had been sharpening with an electric sharpener as it gives more stability and control - basically you just hold the pencil there; then I switched to the T'Gaal manual sharpener. I've since put away all my other sharpeners. There will be a review of this sharpener. (Spoiler - go buy it!)
I have also had one or two instances where the casing has split down the length of the pencil. Again, I expect something like this when you ship wood through dry areas. If you use a piece of thin washi tape and wrap it tightly - but carefully avoid as much overlap as possible - you can stabilize your pencil and still sharpen right through the tape. It may be annoying but in my opinion it is a small price to pay for the quality of pigment.
If you get a set and there are a significant percentage that are damage, split or broken then by all means send them back, that only makes sense.
I stamped these images from MFT's "Our Story" with Memento Tuxedo Black ink (out of habit) on 65lb Kraft cardstock by Recollections.
Each object has a minimum of two shades (for the books) and a maximum of four shades (chair and side table) for shading.
Observations:
- If coloured pencils aren't your typical medium they require practice. I normally colour my scenes with Copic markers and my technique for laying down the colour is completely different. With Copics I start with my medium shade, then darkest then lightest. However with pencils I start with my lightest and work to my darkest shades. You have to find what works for you.
- You must use an incredibly light hand. Unless you are working on high-end artist paper with lots of tooth, you have a limited number of layers before you just can't put down any more colour. The pigment in the pencil sticks to the little bumps (tooth) of the paper, once those are smoothed out - there is no more layering.
- Keep your pencils sharp. There is literally nothing worse than trying to colour with a dull pencil. I don't know how I used to do it. I don't know how my kids do it - I can't even look. Find a sharpener that works for you and stick with it.
- If you are colouring stamped images such as this one, and you like that bold black outline, your multi-liner or pigment pen will not work over this. The wax and the ink aren't friends. They don't like each other and they don't want to play together. Use the black pencil and carefully go over your lines. I used this technique in the example above and you would never know that it wasn't the original stamped lines.
- Pencil colouring takes way longer than colouring with alcohol markers. I'd say this little scene took me about an hour to do. Had this been with Copic markers, I could likely have been done in 10 minutes. Maybe less.
- Do away with the blender pencil (in my opinion). Take the time to learn how to get the blend you are looking for with just the colours that you want to use. I found the blender pencil added an additional waxy bloom to the area with no real benefit. All it did was mash down the tooth of the paper and stop me from adding more layers. I tossed it and forced myself to learn how to blend without it and I'm happier and feel more accomplished for it.
- Pencil colouring is a labour of love. If you are in a hurry or have a lot of copies to get done this may not be the medium to choose at the moment. I don't mass produce cards that are in pencil. They are reserved for close friends and family members.
Overall, I feel Prismacolor Premier pencils have been getting a bad rep for no real reason. Sure there are a few out there that were missed by the quality inspectors but tell me a product that has never had a problem. I can't think of one. For the dozen or so sets and brands of coloured pencil (both wax and oil based) I have, I still reach for my Prismacolors first.
They layer well, there are an amazing number of colours and they are easily accessible. I haven't come across a wax based pencil with a higher pigment quality, so really the price is not that ridiculous. Shop around.
There will likely be one or two in the bunch that are damaged, maybe repairable but maybe not, but think about the number of pencils that are being produced. Should there be a tighter watch on the quality of the pencils as they come off the line? Probably, but that can be said of any company with nearly any product.
Despite the shortcomings and horror stories that you read floating about the internet, these coloured pencils are a fine addition to an artist's craft room. My only regret is not purchasing a larger set when the sale was going on.

Clean and Simple | Tropical Birthday ft MFT and Mama Elephant
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today I wanted to share another card that I created using the smaller stamps in a set. This one is a mashup of My Favorite Things and Mama Elephant. I wanted to create something clean and simple but still fun, and who doesn't like to think of their birthday as a mini vacation? I know I do.
So thinking of a mini vacation makes me think of somewhere warm and tropical and so naturally it just came to this.
To begin, I stamped the parrot from MFT's "Polynesian Paradise" and the branch from Mama Elephant's "Lunar Extras" with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on 110lb Copic-friendly cardstock, coloured them with Copics and fussy cut them out.
I used Tumbled Glass Distress ink to sponge a background directly to the front of my standard A2 sized card base and stamped the birthday greeting with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
Once the background was dry, I adhered the branch flat on the panel, then raised the parrot up on some foam tape and placed him on the branch.
To finish it off, I added a few enamel dots in coordinating colours around the stamped images.

Hello Halloween Series | Watercolour Pumpkin Patch ft. MFT's "Witch Way is the Candy?"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Today is the last (official) card for this year's Hello Halloween Series! Part of me is glad that it's over, it's been a long road, and another part of me is sad because I keep getting inspired by all the amazing work I'm seeing this year. So don't be too surprised if another couple cards pop up over the weeks to come.
To begin, I stamped the two pumpkins from MFT's "Witch Way is the Candy?" set with Antique Linen Distress ink on Strathmore 140lb cold press watercolour paper. If I were to redo this card, I probably would mask off the front pumpkins - I had thought that the water and other inks would lift the lines out completely but they didn't. But the more I look at it, the more "artsy and rustic" it felt and I really fell in love with it.
I then used Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade and Carved Pumpkin Distress inks to paint the pumpkins. I used just a bit of Scattered Straw to pull out the highlights. For the stems I used Forest Moss and Gathered Twigs.
After that was completely dry, I used very watered down Gathered Twigs for the ground and then added more pigment to create the shadows. The darkest shadows are made with Ground Espresso.
Once that was completely dry, I wet the area above the pumpkins with clean water and dropped in Weathered Wood and a bit of Faded Jeans to create the rest of the background, letting the water pull the ink away from the pumpkins and fade out.
The greeting is stamped from Verve's "Autumn Splendor using Forest Moss Distress ink, using the MISTI so I could ensure a good impression.
To finish off the card, I mounted the watercolour panel to a piece of dark green cardstock then adhered the whole lot to a standard A2 sized card base.

I pulled my inspiration from her colours and the crisp clean greeting at the top. And Halloween. YAY!

Growing Up Up Up | ft. MFT's "Up in the Air"
Hi everyone, thank you for stopping by. I hope you're having a great day.
Every year for my niece and nephew I make a card that coordinates with the theme for their birthday party. My sweet little niece turned three this year, and when I was talking to her mom it turns out that she never received her card for her second birthday.
Totally weird, because I have the sketch in my art journal from last year and I distinctly remember making the card but I couldn't find it any where! So I had to make a new card for her.
To begin, I prepped a piece of Strathmore 140lb cold press watercolour paper with my powder tool and stamped the hot air balloon images from MFT's "Up in the Air" set with VersaMark ink and then heat embossed them with clear.
Now if I were to remake this card, I would probably heat emboss in gold or silver - while it looks great in real life, the clear embossing does not pick up well on camera at all.
I then coloured the images with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and used my Prisma water brush to pull the colour out.
I heat embossed the greeting with the same clear powder and then used pinks over top of it to create an emboss resist. I die cut that with the banner die from the Blueprints die-namics, and popped it up on some foam tape.
I used some super strong two-way tape to adhere the watercolour piece to the scalloped panel die from MFT's Blueprint die-namics #27. Then I popped the whole piece up on some foam tape and then mounted that to the front of a standard A2 sized card base.
I hope you like today's card and are inspired to create something of your own. If you haven't already, please follow me on the right side bar or over on Facebook, so you don't miss any future posts. Drop me a line in the comments section below and let me know what you think.
